Love the use of puns in this cute Valentine poem

Veggie Valentine
Author Unknown

You may not "carrot" all for me
The way I care for you.
You may "turnip" your nose
When I plead with you
But if your "heart" should "beet" with mine
Forever "lettuce" hope
there is no reason in the world
Why we two "Cantaloupe."

The Dentist Pulled My Tooth Out

The dentist pulled my tooth out
and he thought it was such fun
he grabbed his pliers
and dental pryers
and pulled another one.

"Yippee! Hooray! What awesome fun!"
he shouted out with glee.
He grinned a grin
then went back in
and pulled out number three.

Then number four and number five
and numbers six and seven
were followed by
a cheerful cry
Of "Eight! Nine! Ten! Eleven!"

He took a few more from the top
and some from underneath,
he yanked them fast
until at last
he'd pulled out all my teeth.

Without my teeth I cannot chew;
I just eat soup and mush.
But don't be sad
I'm kind of glad--
I'll never have to brush!

My true love has my heart, and I have his

By just exchange, one for the other given

I hold his dear, and mine he cannot miss

There never was a better bargain driven

His heart in me, keeps me and him in one

My heart in him, his thoughts and senses guides

He loves my heart, for once it was his own,

I cherish his, because in me it bides

His heart his wound received from my sight

My heart was wounded with his wounded heart...

Both equally hurt, in this change sought our bliss

My true love has my heart and I have his...

Not exactly a poem for the younger kiddos, but a good one for sure.

"Snow Day, " Bilal Arshad, Sixth Grade, PS 122Q

When all the houses are painted white,
Everything to me seems right
On this rare occasion , soldiers come out around and ready to fight The snow is their ammo and the cold wind is their might
White snow floats down and is a beautiful sight
It piles up and makes a fright
Thought it never lasts as long as the sun´s light
When it is gone,
I wonder will it ever be again

This poem was great for February I thought, and written by a kid in sixth grade-it's great.

I've Got A Cold

I've got a cold
And it's not funny

My throat is numb
My nose is runny

My ears are burning
My fingers are itching

My teeth are wobbly
My eyebrows are twitching

My kneecaps have slipped
My bottom's like jelly

The button's come off
My silly old belly

My chin has doubled
My toes are twisted

My ankles have swollen
My elbows are blistered

My back is all spotty
My hair's turning white

I sneeze through the day
And cough through the night

I've got a cold
And I'm going insane

(Apart from all that
I'm as right as rain.)

This poem seems as if it was written by a child in the elementary grades but I fount it suitable for the topic at hand.

My Wobbly Tooth

Author Unknown

Once I had a wobbly tooth
That wobbled to and fro,
Every time I ate my toast
I thought the tooth would go.
But then I ate a candy,
A sticky toffee roll,
Now where my wobbly tooth was
There's nothing but a hole!

A Snowman's Valentine

by Leland B. Jacobs

I have a jolly snowman,

The best I've ever had.

I'm giving him a valentine

That ought to make him glad.

For though he's very handsome,

And sound in every part,

I noticed only yesterday

He hasn't any hear.

So quickly with my scissors

And paper red and fine

I've made a fancy little heart,

My snowman's valentine!

Snowboard
By Dillan Tharp
(age 11)

Snowboarding is like a sparkling diamond
Rampaging through like a bull,
The bindings are like two pythons
Coiling around your feet,
And you edges are like a piece of glass
waiting patiently to cut you.

I thought this poem was rather intense, i found it while searching for a poem about teeth.

Eat Me by Eleanor Smith (aged 11)

Pull me by my hair,
although there is only one,
wash me, before you gaze at me
but be careful I sometimes run!
I love my red, red coat,
it always shines in the sun.
Everybody loves me, no wonder I taste so good
don't forget at night to put on my red hood.
my mother may be dead,
but I still taste like me
I love the summer very much,
because that's mostly when I am eaten.
you can love me inside or out!
it doesn't matter.
so hug me, eat me, care for me.

I have never looked into fingerplays before so I thought i would use this assignment as an excuse. here is a fingerplay about dentist.

Dentist
Original Author Unknown
If I were a dentist,
I know what I would do.
(Point to self.)
I'd tell all the children, "Brush your teeth."
(Imitate brushing teeth.)
"Keep a smile like new."
(Make a big smile and point to lips.)
And if a tiny hole should show,
I'd say, "Climb into my chair."
(Make circle with fingers.)
I'd make my little drill go buzzzzzzzzzz,
And put a filling there!
(Point to teeth.)

Valentine

Pink and red with hearts and bows,
I love you all the way from your head to your toes.
So give me a smile and say you’ll be mine,
My sweet, adorable, one and only Valentine!

Groundhog Day

Groundhog, groundhog,
What do you seek?
As out of your hole
You quietly peek.

If the day be fair
Your shadow will be
Cast on the ground
For all to see.

And back to your lair,
You'll quickly creep
And for six long weeks
Again you'll sleep.

But if we're lucky,
The sky will be gray,
And your shadow
Today will be far away.

Then all of us
Will dance and sing.
'Cause just around the corner
Here comes Spring!

Mary Toots

I thought this was a cute poem for ground hog day. Children get so excited about ground hog day!!!

Groundhog Day is celebrated today in the U.S and Canada. It is the “spark” for this fun movement activity. Let’s dance!

1. Clear a safe space to move and dance. Sit and discuss with the children why we celebrate Groundhog Day. It is a tradition that on this day the groundhog determines whether or not winter will continue. The folklore is that if the groundhog comes out of its burrow and sees its shadow, winter will continue for 6 more weeks. If it doesn’t see its shadow then spring is on its way.

2. The leader reads the following dance poem slowly, while the children listen and think about the moves they might use to express the words of the poem. Read the poem again and have the children dance it.

Waking from his long winter nap,
Groundhog gives his toes a tap, tap.
Stretching, bouncing, ready to go,
The world awaits his do-si-do.

He wiggles out from underground,
Up top to take a look around.
His shadow seen means more winter white.
He scampers back down and curls up tight.

He shimmies out from underground
His head pops up, he peeks around.
No sun or shadow only clouds are found,
Delighted do-si-do, spring time bound!

Happy Valentine’s Day to My Mother/Mom/Mommy
Mom, I’ve got some friends
Of each and every kind,
But a better friend than my mother
I’ll never, ever find!
I’m so happy you’re my mom!
I love you.
