Hello, my name is Amanda Tommer. I was reading the recording that the three of you had on Wed. night and half way through I was thinking to myself. Humm, I think I am taking a class with these two ladies, then you both mentioned that you are also taking Diverse Learners! As am I. :)
So anywho, I live in Enterprise, AL and my husband and I plan on moving back to KS when he gets out of the Army. We both graduated from a small town in KS (Blue Rapdis) about 40 miles North of Manhattan. I also have an almost 2 year old, he is 21 months (Joshua). I am so happy that the assignments aren't due til Sun. because I just got enrolled on Wed. and couldn't even access Blackboard until Fri. I also recieved books on Fri. Well I will talk to everyone soon, I need to get crackin' on this homework :)

Hello everyone! My name is Gregg Dixon, I am 23 years of age and I am a native of South Carolina. My home is Ridgeland, South Carolina a town that just 25 minutes from the historic port cities of Savannah, GA and 40 minutes from Charleston, SC. Currently, I am employed as a paraprofessional but I have been in an instructional positoin for the past 2 years. Last year I taught a 4th grade class of 25 students who all made big improvements in their standardized test scores and I kept all of the documents that showed their progress and parental satisfaction for my portfolio. This most recent school year I was employed as an enrichment teacher where I reviewed langauge arts subjects for kids in grades k-6th that totaled up to 1,300 students over a 2 week period. Things have been off to a late start for me due to several issues with my enrollment so I will have to work hard to get caught up so just pray that everything goes smoothly for me and I look forward to interacting with you all.

A Little about Myself

I am a mom of three kids. My oldest is 5…yes oldest…so I have three kids under 5 years of age. Tristen is 5, Jakob is 2 and Kellianne is 2 months old. I love being a mommy. I will be married 11 years this December. We did not have kids the first 5 years of marriage and struggled with infertility until I finally just gave up trying then wow one day to my surprise I thought I had the stomach flu that was going around my classroom…except after I threw up, I felt much better?! I took a home prego test and yes the good Lord let me conceive my first child without any fertility drugs…after that I got pregnant three years later with Jakob, and 16 months later Kellianne was conceived.

I am originally a Jersey girl. I grew up in Jersey City, NJ. It is a rough area, but I still love it. There’s no place like home. I grew up looking at the NY skyline everyday…just isn’t the same since 9/11. I joined the Navy out of high school and that is where I met my husband Michael. We were stationed in Gulfport, MS while we both attended our schools. I was married to him by the time I was 19 and he was 23…he got me while I was young.

I was in the reserves by the time we were married so I transferred from NJ to California to be with him. We lived there for five years. During those five years I received my Associate Degree from Ventura College and took about 24 Child Development credit hours. I was a director of a before and after school care center (K-5 during the school year and K-8 during the summer). I loved it and to this day it was my favorite job. However, as with most childcare or teaching jobs, I was paid very poorly. I later quit when I was offered a job on base at the Child Development Center. It was a $3 an hour increase with less responsibility so I took it. I really enjoyed that job as well. I resigned due to pregnancy complications with Tristen.

From there, we moved back to Gulfport, MS. I tried to get a job as a teacher’s aid, but was not hired due to my Jersey accent. My friend was the niece of the lady who interviewed me and said I was a great candidate until she heard me speak. So, I then put in a package with the Navy to go back on active duty. I was picked up and then we were transferred to Norfolk, Va.

Now I am stationed in Great Lakes, IL…but live in Kenosha, WI. It’s about an hour commute for the both of us, but I did not want to live in North Chicago. I actually love the area we live in minus the snow. People here in Wisconsin have a cute accent…like I should talk. Although my accent has died down a lot except with certain words.

I graduated from FHSU this past May with a BGS. I actually attended the commencement 7 months pregnant. I am sure I looked funny in my cap and gown, but I didn’t care…I needed to set an example for my son who was not happy he was going to Kindergarten this September. He was so proud of me…he was jumping up and down as I walked across the stage and they called my name. Now he understands school is not a bad thing…it’s a great accomplishment. Tristen has ADHD and often gets frustrated at anything to do with his fine motor skills like cutting and writing. When he saw that I finished college he decided he wanted to go to school too. Not that he has a choice, but okay. His only request is I go with him…so that got me thinking…hmmm…I was going to take a break from school and then apply to graduate school in a year or so, but I knew getting an MBA is not my passion…I just wanted it for the money. Children are my passion. I loved all of my childcare jobs and I loved my classes. I love my children and I love other people’s children as well. I like the fact that I can relate to ADD/ADHD so well since I too have ADD, but only recently realized this and got diagnosed. Girls are so often never diagnosed. Now I have a better understanding of it and read everything I can about ADD/ADHD.

What are some of my hobbies? Well, I guess making hair bows for little girls, gardening, making babies (lol), and working on my websites www.aparentshelper.com or www.for-parents-by-parents.com or my blog www.for-parents-by-parents.blogspot.com . I just started these sites so they may be a little rough.

I want to teach second or third grade. I really love the third grade age group, but I will be happy no matter what grade I start off teaching. I am currently enrolled in the following 5 classes: TEEL 273 VB Professional Practice and Observation, TEEL 202 VB Foundations of Education, TEEL 260 VA Children’s Literature, TEEL 230 VB Diverse Learners, and TEEL 231 VC Human Growth and Development. I am sure several others classmates are in other classes with me. I hope everyone has a great semester and I look forward to getting to know everyone.

Hello. My name is Joe and I'm 36. I joined the Marine Corps when I was 17 and have been enjoying myself in the Corps for the past 19 years. I am married and have 4 sons; ages 17, 12, 10, and 8. I don't need Wikopedia or google because I have children that know everything! I put off college for years because I couldn't figure out what I wanted to do when I grew up. Now, I'm nearly ready to retire and I've made up my mind.

I graduated with my AA this spring and look forward to earning my degree with FHSU.

I plan to retire in 2011 and return to Michigan and teach in the small town where I grew up.

Hi,
I live in Cimmaron, KS. I've been married for 20 years and have 6 kids ranging in age from 19 years to 11 months. I've been talking about going to college for the past 6 years but never knew how to start. I then went to the class the high school here had for the parents of JR. and SR. Low and behold getting into school was a lot simpiler than I thought, so here I am.

I had not thought of children books as being helpful to the child’s development. Most of them just drove me crazy because the grammar in them are atrocious. I’ve always wondered how the writers and the editors of these books could expect a kid to grow up and be able to put a decent sentence together. I don’t know how many sentences in my children’s books start with “and”. I know my English teacher had a hard time pounding sentence structure into our heads.

I didn't know where else to put these comments about the chapter.

Hi there - I'm Jessica Gardner from Concordia, Kansas. I am 31, married, and mother of 8 year old twin girls. I'm working towards becoming an Elementary Art Teacher. Currently, I am a full-time Graphic Designer and seriously considering changing my major to keep in this field. I am a huge geek and love computers, comic books, video games, art, design and anything that combines these things is even higher on my list. I adore movies and have a collection almost as large as my video game collection.

My name is Carly, I live in N. Georgia with my three wonderful girls and amazing husband. I am majoring in elementary education and will follow with an art education masters. I was on the sociology road, with a great interest in cultures and agriculture/enviornment, but felt there wasn't a career condusive to raising a family, so i will pick that up later on in life. I have a great interest in cooking/baking, gardening, reading just about anything Except cheap romance novels, painting, being with my family, and traveling (one day).

I look forward to learning with all of you!

St. Patricks Day

Sammy had a green hat,
Sussie wore one too.
Amy had green socks and bows,
Tony green shoes covered his toes.
But me I forgot and not even my charm,
Could get me through St. Paddy’s Day without a pinch on my arm.

Oh man, I just now found the correct site! I somehow ended up on a blog page on which I didn't belong. Well, better late than never. My name is Stephanie. I'm a junior in the Elementary Ed. program. I also work as a substitute para. So far, I've only worked with first and second graders and middle schoolers. When I'm not working I stay at home with my 1 1/2 year old daughter. I enjoy cooking out, camping, yard games, science, gardening. Well, I like just about anything that has to do with the outdoors. Nice to meet you all!

Hi everyone. My name is Jason Radel and I am new to FHSU this year. I have been taking classes on and off for the past four years, but I am ready to buckle down and get it done. I work as a para-educator and football coach in the Gardner Edgerton school district in Kansas. I have been married for 9 years and have a 13 year old son.

I have taken many on line classes due to working full time, but this class has got me really confused. I have never worked with this type of blogging before. I have always worked within the discussion boards on blackboard. I put a post on the blog earlier today, but it doesn't show on this page.

I hope I get figured out soon. Good luck everyone.
